Tickets: $22.50-$55 avail. through Ticketmaster and the Wharf Box Office

Country singer/songwriter Miranda Lambert promises to light up Orange Beach when her "On Fire Tour” rolls into town. This Texas native has spent almost a decade churning out hits such as "Kerosene,” "Gunpowder and Lead” and "More Like Her.” Her honest songwriting style as well as memorable performances both in the studio and on stage have not only won over country music fans but also the critics.

Since the release of her sophomore effort "Kerosene,” Lambert has taken home a Grammy in addition to numerous awards from the Academy of Country Music, the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music.

Lambert fans will be pleased to know they will also get a rare performance from country music super group Pistol Annies on this date of the tour. Comprised of Lambert, Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley, this trio can fool newcomers at first sight with their appearance. However, these women serve up a ton of bad girl attitude and lay it out on a bed of unforgettable lyrics and harmonies. The group’s debut album, "Hell on Heels,” shot to No. 1, and fans of this band (known as "Annies” and "Andys”) can look forward to more albums from this group.

Band: George Porter Jr. & the Runnin’ Pardners with special guest Ryan Balthrop & Friends
Date: Fri., July 13 at 9 p.m.
Venue: Alabama Music Box, 455 Dauphin St.,
Tickets: $12 adv. /$15 day-of avail. at Alabama Music Box and their website

Bassist George Porter Jr. is a modern music icon in the New Orleans music scene. As a founding member of The Meters, Porter helped pioneer funk into the mid-‘70s when the band parted ways. After his stint with The Meters, he continued to perform as a hired gun for numerous musical acts from all genres, both in the studio and on stage. Dr. John, Paul McCartney, Warren Haynes and Jimmy Buffet are just a few of the notable acts that have recruited Porter.

Porter has now decided to spearhead his own musical project the Runnin’ Pardners. This furious five-piece has been winning over the public through their unhinged live performances. This group could be considered the sonic culmination of Porter’s life work. Their sound exhibits an undeniable New Orleans vibe that drifts in and out of smooth measures of modern jazz and traditional funk.

The intimate setting of Alabama Music Box should make for one of the city’s biggest dance parties.
Band: Shawna P. & the EarthFunk Tribe
Date: Fri., July 20 at 9 p.m.
Venue: The Blues Tavern, 2818 Gov’t Blvd.,
Tickets: Free

The Port City needs to prepare for a powerful night of soulful sounds, courtesy of Shawna P. This funked-out siren does not leave a performance without making a permanent impression on her audience. This talented lady gives her all on stage while conjuring up muses ranging from Mavis Staples to the Allman Brothers.

The combination of her powerful voice and exhilarating stage presence has made her a favorite in venues up and down the Gulf Coast, and funk legend George Clinton has even called her "The Long Lost Queen of Funk.”

Shawna P. is currently pushing her debut effort "EarthFunk Muzik.” For someone unfamiliar with Shawna P.’s work, this album is an introduction to her unique versatility.
The autobiographical "Sister Soul” is a combination of modern soul and funk with a smidgen of rock. "My Tribe” takes on a seductive groove in the tradition of artists such as Sade before bringing the raw soul glory that is all Shawna P. This Gulf Coast diva is a must-see for all fans of funk and soul.
